Hail To The Nuevo New Age!
Old Hippies give birth to Bright Young Things.
Have you been to South East Asia? Have you done Africa and South America yet? Have you experimented with Ayahuasca and all the other medicinal, natural, indigenous remedies?
Are you concerned about equality and injustice and systemic racism? What about what we’re doing to the planet and our diet? Are you Vegan, Fruitarian, Breatharian?
Have you a degree in biodiversity and ecosomethingorother?
Coooool.
Did you have lots of fluffy toys when you were a geeky kid and give your poor mom and dad a really hard time with your emotional outbursts and tantrums?
Yeah… you’re okay.
You’ve learnt all about living from Netflix and Amazon Prime and all the drivel on YouTube, Facebook and the rest of the lowest common denominator platforms that know the greatest American adage of all time: ‘There’s one born every minute.’
But hey… just because you’re young doesn’t mean you don’t know anything, right?
Wrong.
Living is not intellectual. Living is living experience. Living is having your heart broken, the disappointments of your thwarted expectations, the rejections and failures of your dreams and hopes and wishes. Living is learning first-hand about yourself and your limitations and the frustrations of not getting your own way and how to survive in this dog eat dog world.
Living is learning about your desires, your propensities, your naiveté, ignorance and learning from first-hand experience about the lies of society, our parents and the pretense of your friends and family and why they rarely speak of love, death, truth.
Did you hold hands when you first met him or her? How long did it last? Did you have wonderful, exciting, life-changing sex? How long did it last? Are you learning about Tantra and are you a fully qualified yoga teacher, shiatsu practitioner and do you eat absolutely no processed food?
Are you channeling angels and empathetically healing the poor and the starving of the world?
Are you fluid, polyamorous, and what do you define as?
